Cozy Games to Immerse Yourself In
We all might have our own opinions, but you are here to read mine! Before we begin, thank you for that.
As I sip a hot chocolate, a rare sugary treat, I am getting excited to talk about my three favorite games that keep me coming back for more.
First and foremost is my absolute favorite that I have sank 500+ hours into: Disney Dreamlight Valley. I love this game so much I have it on two platforms, but no worries as it’s cross platform so you can play the same save from any platform you have the game.
What do I love about DDV? Almost everything! Endless quests, crafting, decorating, and running into my favorite Disney characters as I do all of it. This game keeps giving updates every few weeks with new characters to unlock and friendship quests. While not free, there are also three DLC’s exploring new lands, characters, crops, and foraged materials.
My absolute favorite thing about this game? Goofy! I just love him, and he runs a produce stand in each biome where you can buy different crops to plant or sell your foraged / mined items, meals, or crops.
If you are experiencing inner-child traumas this game’s storyline might be a bit difficult for a minute, but you will get through it and realize it’s just a happy escape with it’s beautiful graphics and soothing Disneyesque music playing in the background.
My next favorite is the Nintendo classic, Animal Crossing New Horizons. I have 200+ hours in this game. Similar in style to DDV, you are a human arriving for a new life on an island, and you are the only human! You have fun quirkly little animal villagers who arrive one by one, some too cute for words, and some are a bit annoying. No worries, as later gameplay allows for villagers to leave and new ones to come in.
While having a very childlike feel to it, this game has some hilarious levels poking fun at a sterile capitialist idea ran by Tom Nook, a Tanuki. He and Isabel run the office where you can upgrade your house, storage, and add bridges and other things to the island. They work 24/7, so you will never be without aid. The game has silly little items to help you progress like a smartphone with island apps, and an atm where you can keep track of your loans and purchase items with your Nook Miles. Yep, you earn miles through completing tasks on the island.
My favorite thing about ACNH? Dream Codes! You can lie in a bed and visit other islands via Luna, either by entering a dream code, or having her randomly place you on an island. This is such fun exploration, as the game has terraforming and decorating, and the creativity some have unleashed on their islands is absolutely incredible.
I truly could get lost in all of the cute deails in this game, but I’ll let you experience it for yourself. The best bit is that there are no in-game purchases, so you can enjoy everything in the game just by playing it.
My third recommendation is, Fae Farm. I have 50+ hours in this game. This is another life sim game where you arrive to a small island and encounter both human and fae alike.
What I like about this game? Such adorable graphics, very relaxing soundtrack, farming is very fun as it’s seasonal (unlike most cozy games), and you can grow a plethora of flowers by learning about hybridization. The interaction with NPC’s is never boring, and while the decorating in this game is not my favorite, it is still pretty darn cute.
Due to Phoenix Labs being bought out, it looked like this game was going to go offline and the multiplayer option was going to no longer be available. Thanks to Gambit recently purchasing the game, it’s staying online with the multiplayer function, and a hopeful potential for updates and future DLC’s!
If you like to feel cozy and relax with some battle free games after a long day, I hope you find respite in one of the above mentions. However, if none of them suit your fancy, I have several honorable mentions as well:
Wytchwood
Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Tiny Glade
Slime Rancher 2
Palia
What will you get lost in?
